Carl Franz van der Velde (1779-1824) tarttui Pohjan sodan loppuun ja sitä seuranneeseen aikaan kirjassa Arwed Gyllenstierna. Eine Erzählung aus den Anfange des achtzehnten Jahrhunderts. Löytyy Google Booksista (1. osa ja 2. osa).
Franz J. L. Thimmin mukaan teos kuului kirjailijan parhaimpiin. Amerikkalainen englantilaisen käännöksen kustantaja katsoi kuitenkin parhaaksi tehdä jotain modifikaatioita: "in a few cases I have taken the liberty to omit some passages, and to alter others, that were deemed incompatible with the ideas of propriety and decorum prevalent in this country." Espanjassa nimiösivun perusteella tehtiin pelkästään käännös: Alfredo de Gyllenstierna: historia alemana del principio del siglo XVIII. Ruotsissa päädyttiin ratkaisuun "fritt bearbetadt efter tyskan". Kirjan Arvid Gyllenstjerna. Romantisk Berättelse från Carl XII:s tidehvarf nimiösivulla ilmaistu sanoin "förbättrad öfversättning". Suosittu kirja, vuonna 1830 jo neljäs painos menossa!
Ruotsalainen versio oli Turussa myynnissä (Åbo Tidningar12.2.1834), mutta tarina oli ehtinyt unohtua kun kolmisenkymmentä vuotta myöhemmin aloitettiin suomeksi versioitujen jatkokertomusten julkaisu. Pikaisen englanninkieliseen käännökseen tutustumisen perusteella tarina olisi tarkoitukseen mainiosti soveltunut. Mutta vaatinut muokkausta... Torniota kuvatessa todetaan
